Southville Foreign University

Being a fourth year student is really a difficult job. As a senior, you should have passing grades in every subject to be able to graduate - - including having good character grades. You have to do your best in every activity that the school holds - - for each activity would be your last. One thing which senior students prepare for is their college years. Each student is eager to look for universities which will suit his/her “taste”.

Last September 25, 2010, Southville Foreign University (SFU) has invited our school to be part of the Global Dimensions Olympiad (GDO). As we arrived at SFU, we felt nervous and were really eager to be one of the qualifiers in the elimination round. Chosen students from different schools nationwide were there too - - some were chatting, some were just silent, and some were reviewing their past lessons. You can see in every student’s face the determination to be one of the scholars of SFU. The GDO started with a prayer followed by the singing of the national anthem. Next, a representative from SFU gave us instructions on what we were supposed to do. We were then, given the answer sheets and booklets. The test proper lasted for about four hours, and after that, we were toured by two students from their university. We all saw the facilities of SFU, and we were really amazed by what we saw. They have advanced equipments which would make the life of a student much easier. They have a welcoming staff, and their students were very nice and friendly. These are some reasons why anyone would want to be part of their school. After about an hour of touring, we were all called by our teacher for we already have to go. We thanked our tour guides and bid goodbye. We were all lucky for having been a part of the Global Dimensions Olympiad, for we had the opportunity to visit Southville Foreign University - - a university which should be one of our choices for college.

General Assembly 2010

One event which Cavinians prepare for is the Annual General Assembly. This event is where we, students, welcome the freshmen and transferees, and see what skills and talents they possess. It was the 22nd day of July 2010 when we had our general assembly. In the morning, we celebrated the Holy Mass and had the induction of Class and Club officers. After the induction, the freshmen students and the transferees were asked to prepare for their presentations. If not mistaken, this was the first time that we held the general assembly in the morning (the general assembly was usually held in the afternoon). No one was used to this schedule, so each and everyone had to adjust.  Everyone was worried; tension in every performer was seen through his/her reactions and gestures. Thirty minutes of preparation had passed so quickly, not noticing that the bell rang. This means that we all have to go down to the gymnasium and witness what the freshmen and transferees had prepared for the assembly.

The program started with the doxology performed by selected high school students. Afterwards, Miss Marlene Lasala, our assistant principal, gave her welcoming remarks. To awaken the spirits of the Cavinians, selected senior students wowed the audience with their outstanding dance number. There was also the performance of the band, Berserk. All was well until the succession of performers was called. Everyone did their best - - they grooved to the beat, they did everything to showcase their hidden talents. After all the performances, it was the time for judgment. The freshmen and transferees, as well as all the students were eager to know who had the best performance. The 4th placer was I-St. Joan of Arc, the transferees were the 3rd placers, next is I-St. Aloysius Gonzaga which was awarded second, and bringing home the bacon was I-St. Agnes of God. Everyone rejoiced, for they gained the fruits of their labor and they have succeeded the assembly. The program ended with the closing remarks by Rhulleine Bonsol, and announcements by Ms. Maricel Villanueva, our activity coordinator.
